Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 2, ‘Resurrection’, composed in 1894, is one of his most often-performed symphonic works.
Simona Houda Šaturová is one of the foremost Czech vocal artists, specializing above all in Mozart and Baroque repertoire.
The alto solo will be sung by the Swiss singer Yvonne Naef, whose art has been admired by audiences in the most prestigious concert halls and opera houses, for instance at Milan’s La Scala and the festivals in Salzburg and Bayreuth.
These two singers together made a compact disc recording of Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 with the Philadelphia Orchestra under the baton of Christoph Eschenbach on the Ondine label.
Eschenbach serves as chief conductor and music director of the Orchestre de Paris as well as a guest conductor of orchestras and opera houses around the world. With the Orchestre de Paris and invited vocal soloists in the Théâtre Châtelet he instigated the first complete performance of Wagner’s Ring in Paris.
